The care of your grandmother is a sacred one...

I wanted to take a moment to write about my Oma (grandma).

Oma was the center of our family web...continuously weaving and holding our family together. Whether it was cooking meals for all 9 grandchildren, playing her beetle records, or setting the energy in her big stucco house she managed to always create a peaceful environment. While we all ran wild in the house she was always doing something, and usually it was for others.

Cleaning, taking care of us, and having the most warm calm presence you could imagine. Her soothing voice and soft touch could heal anything it seemed and make even the slightest of pain go away. She kept our family together. We were a beautiful tribe.

When I got into doula work I felt for the first time in my life that this was it... this was my calling. I felt a natural ease and comfort when comforting other women during hard or difficult times. It was almost as if it came from inside my being as a strong electric force/energy. I realize I have inherently downloaded my Oma’s soft touch, healing affirmations, and soothing presence.

I hold this strength & love and give much gratitude and thanks to my Oma. I truly believe I learned how to be a great care taker from her at a very young age.

"With my practice, I embody Oma and carry her loving care in my heart."

Oma has always comforted us grandchildren. One of my favorite memories I can always recall on is when I was a young girl and I got terribly sick. My Oma somehow even though I was feeling the worst I could have imagined, she made me feel at ease with my discomfort. Her energy was a warm fuzzy feeling and she would place one hand on my back and lullaby me to sleep. Her energy was healing. This is the energy I hold sacredly when I am your doula. I hold space for you. I am here to comfort and ease your discomfort, guide you, and most of all watch over you. With my practice, I embody Oma and carry her loving care in my heart. I honor this sacred practice of healing and helping one another in sisterhood. I believe in our powers and am forever grateful for the opportunity to aid another woman in prenatal, birth, and postpartum. I look forward to being your doula.
